Anciens Combattants Canada (ACC) a lancé une consultation en ligne pour comprendre comment nous pourrions mieux communiquer avec les anciens membres des Forces armées canadiennes et leur famille et les sensibiliser. La consultation auprès de la communauté des vétérans s’adresse aux vétérans qui ne bénéficient actuellement d’aucune prestation ni d’aucun service d’ACC. Il est important que tous les anciens militaires connaissent les prestations et les services qu’ACC leur offre, ainsi que les moyens d’y accéder, même des années après leur libération. Les constatations de cette consultation nous aideront à améliorer nos méthodes de communication avec les vétérans, pour mieux répondre à leurs besoins. La consultation en ligne sera ouverte jusqu’à la fin du mois de mars. Des groupes de discussion en personne auront lieu dans des collectivités de tout le Canada ce printemps.

Le projet de loi du NPD a besoin de votre aide!

Comme vous l’avez peut-être appris, la députée néo-démocrate Irene Mathyssen (London-Fanshave) a déposé, en février dernier, un projet de loi d’initiative parlementaire (C-397) visant à changer les lois concernant les conjoints survivants. Et depuis, ils ont, la députée Mathyssen et la Coalition, entrepris d’aller chercher des appuis à ce projet.
La Coalition a rencontré le député conservateur Dan Albas, un membre de l’important Comité permanent des finances. Ils ont eu une rencontre de près de deux heures et fourni au député Albas un dossier d’information sur les objectifs de la coalition ainsi qu’une analyse financière approfondie montrant le coût réel du changement des lois.
D’autres députés conservateurs sont maintenant au courant de l’injuste législation après avoir été contactés par leurs électeurs au cours de notre campagne de lettres.
La députée Mathyssen a écrit à Scott Brison, Président du Conseil du Trésor, pour lui rappeler que notre pays a encore des lois archaïques et injustes qui privent d’une pension des conjoints survivants. Elle a aussi souligné que les libéraux ont promis d’entreprendre la correction de ces lois mais n’ont rien fait.

La Coalition croit qu’il faut rappeler au gouvernement libéral que cette question est importante pour tous les Canadiens. Ils endossent donc pleinement la pétition du NPD pressant le gouvernement d’appuyer le projet de loi de la députée Irene Mathyssen. Ils pressent tous les partis d’appuyer le projet de loi du NPD et ils espèrent que vous apporterez votre aide en recueillant quelques signatures parmi vos connaissances. Toute signature compte.

Veterans Affairs Minister is entitled to his own opinion but not to his own facts/Government plan for lifelong pensions under New Veterans Charter fails to live up to Prime Minister’s commitment to Canada’s veterans.
Minister Seamus O’Regan is entitled to his own opinion but he is not entitled to his own facts. The Minister has suggested in his recent letter to the Hill Times and in public statements that no real financial disparity will exist between compensation paid to seriously disabled veterans under the Pension Act and the New Veterans Charter once his proposals, announced on December 20, 2017, take effect in April 2019. He has concluded in his analysis that only a $50.00 a month discrepancy will arise when comparing benefits under each statutory program.
With all due respect, the Minister is badly misinformed in this regard. A realistic comparison on an “apples to apples” basis reveals that a “significant disparity” will indeed continue to exist. It is essential in this context to recognize that the actual maximum amounts of compensation under each statutory regime will be as follows...

L'Assemblée générale annuelle de l'ACPRM aura lieu le mercredi 6 décembre 2017 à 15 h 45 HAE par conférence téléphonique. Les membres qui souhaitent participer doivent nous contacter par téléphone au 1-613-432-9491 ou envoyer un courriel à admin@afpaac.ca pour recevoir les informations de connexion. L'appel pour les membres qui participent à l'appel est gratuit.
Une motion visant l'adoption de la vérification de 2016 sera présentée à l'AGA. Cette vérification a été réalisée par Winter Bingley et les états financiers ont été fournis au conseil. Le vérificateur rapporte qu'à son avis, les états financiers représentent de manière juste et dans tous les aspects importants, la situation financière de l'Association canadienne des pensionnés et retraités militaires au 31 décembre 2016, ainsi que le bilan des opérations pour l'exercice terminé à cette date conforme aux principes comptables canadiens généralement reconnus pour les organismes sans but lucratif. L'accès aux états financiers se fait sur demande par les membres.

John McCrae Statue Unveiling

John McCrae was a famous Canadian soldier, physician and poet. He died January 28, 1918 in Boulogne, France. He left us his legacy, the world-renowned poem "In Flanders Fields." The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery intends to honour this great Canadian by placing his statue at the National Artillery Memorial in Ottawa. The statue will be unveiled on May 3, 2015 with a formal ceremony and a Guard of Honour with representation from each Artillery Unit in Canada.

National Day of Honour Activities

In recognition and commemoration of Canada's military mission in Afghanistan, May 9, 2014 has been declared a "National Day of Honour" by Royal Proclamation. A National Ceremony will occur on Parliament Hill with Veterans of all branches of the Canadian Armed Forces and families. This will be an occasion to pay tribute to the fallen, the sacrifices of the wounded and the special burden borne by military families.

CAF Pensioners Health Care Plan

On retiring from the CAF we were offered an option for supplementary (or comprehensive for those retiring outside the country where provincial care would not be available) health care insurance under the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP). The plan provided that we pensioners who opted for the coverage would pay 25% of the plan’s premium while our employer would pay the balance. (For those of you who are curious enough, the actual figures are at http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/index.php?sid=87&hl=1&lang=eng).
As part of the Harper Government’s plan to ‘reduce its deficit’ (isn’t that a familiar phrase!) we are hearing reports that Treasury Board intends to raise our share of the health care premium to 50%. Most of us opted for basic hospital coverage which, for a family, costs $42.76/month. Should the suspected Treasury Board rumour prove correct, that premium will jump to $85.52.
It’s time to join other federal pensioners in the fight against this unilateral action by protesting to our individual members of parliament. We have a sample letter (click here) that you can use as a basis for your own to your member of parliament, and you should mail a copy to the President of Treasury Board as well. If you don’t know who your member is, a listing of all MPs is on our website or here

Plan de soins de santé des pensionnés/es des FAC
Lors de notre retraite des FAC, on nous offrait une option d’assurance santé supplémentaire au sein du Régime de soins de santé de la fonction publique (RSSFP). Pour les retraités qui résidaient à l’extérieur du pays une assurance compréhensive leur était offerte. Les pensionnés/es qui choisissaient ce plan en paient 25% et le gouvernement 75%. Announcement regarding recognition of service available from the government of Canada

The Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) has announced the following items in recognition of service, available from the government of Canada. Veterans or their families can apply to receive these items by filling out the application form by clicking on the corresponding link, or by calling 1-866-522-2122.
Bomber Command Bar- This bar is being issued to eligible Canadian Veterans (or their next of kin) who served in Bomber Command during the Second World War. The honour, in the form of a bar clasp, is to be worn on the ribbon of the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (CVSM).
Korean War Certificate- This certificate of recognition is being issued to all eligible Canadian Veterans of the Korean War.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Vice-Chairperson (Military Widow) Helen Rapp-Bowen. Helen was a strong advocate for the fight against Marriage over 60 and the well-being and support of her fellow veterans.
She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Monday, August 26, 2013 at Tubman Funeral Home. in Nepean Ontario from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM EDT, and Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EDT, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.

Say No to Budget Cuts at VAC

We are contacting you today regarding the proposed reductions at Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC). As you may know, VAC is planning to phase out 500 jobs from the department over five years and are planning to slash more than $200 million from the budget, along with another five to 10 per cent funding cut under the Harper government's latest cost-cutting measures.
AFP/AAC is one of the 58 member organizations that make up the National Council of Veteran Associations. Together, we are encouraging all our members to write or contact their MPs to demand that VAC be exempt from any reductions.
